PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strength of a carbon fiber-reinforced modified polyester resin (CFRTP), while a thermoplastic composite material (CFRTP) composed of a polyester resin and reinforcing carbon fiber is expected to be improved further in strength and electric characteristics for expanded applications as an advanced material, including industrial materials, automotive materials and aerospace materials, and has so far been improved in adhesion by improving the intermolecular affinity of the carbon fiber for the polyester by surface treatment of the carbon fiber. ! SOLUTION: A terminal carboxyl group of a polyester and carbon fiber imparted with a carboxyl group are bonded chemically by a reaction extrusion method using an epoxy resin as a binder and a catalyst to form a carbon fiber-reinforced modified polyester resin (CFRTP) so as to improve the strength.
