The invention relates to the field of information technology, more specifically to a method for indexing, comparing and searching for images in a computer system. The present invention can be used in the creation and use of systems for performing various tasks relating to the search for and comparison of images. The proposed method fulfils the above-mentioned aims of the invention, is characterized by its fundamental novelty and provides the possibility of looking up an image on the basis of its contents and a textual description, and also of comparing the image.
