The present invention provides a portable terminal apparatus capable of efficiently executing terminal-to-terminal communication without being mediated by a base station. The portable terminal apparatus capable of using a terminal-to-terminal communication mode is provided with: a receiving unit for receiving command information for commanding that terminal-to-terminal communication be performed, and communication area information about another base station; a terminal search unit for searching for one or more other portable terminal apparatuses capable of terminal-to-terminal communication; a position-receiving unit for receiving, from one or more other portable terminal apparatuses, position information about the other portable terminal apparatus(es); an area determination unit for determining, on the basis of the position information and the communication area information, whether one or more other portable terminal apparatuses are present in the communication area of the other base station; and a terminal communication unit for performing communication with one or more other portable terminal apparatuses. When one or more other portable terminal apparatuses are present in the communication area of the other base station, the terminal communication unit performs terminal-to-terminal communication with the other portable terminal apparatus(es).
