Provided is a hybrid construction machine capable of properly controlling engine speed on the basis of total load torque, reducing energy loss due to powering auxiliary machinery, and efficiently operating the engine and a power-generating electric motor, wherein the hybrid construction machine is provided with a hydraulic pump, a power-generating electric motor, an engine, and a control device. The control device includes a total load torque specification unit for specifying total load torque, which is the sum of the load torque of the hydraulic pump and the load torque of the power-generating electric motor, and an engine speed control unit for controlling the engine speed on the basis of the total load torque. The engine speed control unit performs regulation control for increasing the engine speed along with decreases in the total load torque in areas of high load torque, and performs isochronous control for maintaining the engine speed at a fixed target speed N2 in areas of low load torque. |
