<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device that has a simple configuration for holding, in place of a delivery tray, a plurality of sheets and also shortening the processing time. <P>SOLUTION: The sheet conveying device includes: a conveying roller pair comprising a driving roller 50 and a driven roller 51 which is in pressure contact with the driving roller for rotation, wherein the driving roller 50 and the driven roller 51 form a nip to hold and convey a sheet; a conveyance resistance member 54 configured to abut on one of the sheet ends in the width direction of the sheet which is held and conveyed by the conveying roller pair and apply conveyance resistance to the sheet. The driving roller 50 starts rotating so that the sheet approaches the nip. The sheet is held by the conveying roller pair 50, 51 and conveyed in the conveying direction and, at the same time, toward the conveyance resistance member 54. The driving roller 50 stops while the one end of the sheet held by the conveying roller pair 50, 51 is in abutment with the conveyance resistance member 54, which is repeated for every sheet.
