The present invention relates to a novel carbon dioxide fixation cycle for synthesizing carbohydrates by fixing carbon dioxide. In addition, the present invention relates to a unit or a composition for carrying out carbon dioxide fixation, including the carbon dioxide fixation cycle. Additionally, the present invention relates to a method for fixing carbon dioxide or a method for producing glyoxylic acid, by using the carbon dioxide fixation cycle. When using the novel carbon dioxide fixation cycle according to the present invention, only three ATPs are consumed to fixate one carbon dioxide, thereby being able to realize the efficiency of energy conversion 2.5 times higher than that of a Rubisco enzyme which is a typical carbon dioxide fixation enzyme. Moreover, when driving the novel carbon dioxide fixation cycle outside a human body, chemical energy produced by a light reaction of photosynthesis is induced to be completely used only for synthesis of carbon compounds without energy loss occurring in cell maintenance and other metabolic processes, thereby greatly enhancing the efficiency of energy conversion. Furthermore, the novel carbon dioxide fixation cycle can produce glyoxylic acid by consistently fixing carbon dioxide without providing extra carbohydrates except for the carbohydrates added in the beginning. |
