A method for manufacturing an optical fibre laser

The method involves providing a doped section (110) for absorbing a portion of light received through an end of section. Torsion angle is applied to an optical fiber (104) to check increase in polarization extinction ratio of light output from end of optical fiber. The optical fiber is attached to a mechanical mount at two attachment points (116, 118) of the optical fiber on both sides of the doped section, with the torsion angle applied to the optical fiber if the polarization extinction ratio is greater than the preset value throughout the range of pump power.
