[Class 12 (i)] Sliding-friction guide bearings for control rods or tubes allowing axial and rotary movement of the rod or tube comprise a plurality of spring-pressed bearing members arranged in recesses around a housing so as to move radially inwards to engage and support the control rod. The bearing members may be of partspherical form convex to the rod periphery or may be in the form of shoes concave to the rod periphery and are preferably made of lubricant impregnated material such as metal, fibre, lignum vitµ. The form shown in Fig. 1 has bearing members 11 of part-spherical form 12 convex to the periphery of the supported tube 10 so giving only point-contact support; the bearing members have an upstanding neck 13 with rib 14 by which one end of a spring 15 is attached to the bearing member, the other end of such spring being similarly attached to a plug 17 adjustably screwed in the recesses 20 of the housing 18 which accommodate the bearing members 11. Bearing members giving line contact may be used. The bearing members shown in Fig. 6 are concave shoes giving surface contact; the shoes have headed studs 29 screwed thereto and freely passing through apertures in plugs 30 adjustably screwed in the housing recesses to vary the pressure of spring 32. According to the first Provisional Specification, dust covers may be slipped over the control rod and attached to the guidebearing housing. |
