[Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable reclining chair, comprising a link system pivoted to a support at 30, the link system consisting of the seat 28, back 26 and two or more connecting links 32, 34, situated above the plane of the seat, and a leg rest 46 pivoted to the seat 28, is provided with one or more guiding links 42 pivoted to the support at 44, one or more controlling elements 50 rigidly connected to the guiding links 42 and controlling links 52 pivotally connected to the controlling elements 50 and to the leg rest 46 whereby movement in inclination of the reclining chair causes corresponding movement of the leg rest 46. As shown in Fig. 1 the controlling links 52 are adjustable in effective length to vary the inclination of the leg rest 46 to the seat 28 independently of the movement of the link system. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the back 226 and seat 228 are separately pivoted to the support 220 and the connecting links comprise top links 232 and front links 284, 234 pivoted together at 239 the links 284 being in rigid connection with the guiding links 242. The controlling elements 250 in rigid connection with the guiding links 242 are pivoted to adjusting members 290 which may assume two positions either in prolongation of the controlling elements 250 or of the controlling links 252 so varying the inclination of the leg rests 246 independently of the movement of the link system. The guide links 242 and controlling elements may form a unit which may be pivoted in slots in the sides of the support 220 which in this case is a casing and serves to hide the mechanism in the upright position of the chair. As shown in Fig. 12 the controlling link 551 may be pivoted to a second link 553 pivoted on the same pivot 548 as the leg rest and seat and means such as a clampable rod 543 may be used to vary the inclination of the leg rest 546. Movement of the link system will not vary the relative inclination of the leg rest with the seat until a cam surface 508, which may be on the second link 553 or on the controlling link 551, comes into contact with the leg rest. Locking means may be provided for locking the chair in the desired adjusted position. The support may be mounted on wheels or it may be foldable.
