The cell is enclosed in a plastic sheath 8 through which gas may diffuse. The hole 14 may be made in an annular groove 6 in the container. The sheath 8 surrounds the upper rim of the container and insulates it from a metal closure 11 which makes contact with the carbon electrode 3.
