PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of projecting a video such that it looks bright while suppressing the deformation of an electrode.SOLUTION: A projector 500 for switching and alternately outputting a first video and a second video includes: a discharge lamp 90; a discharge lamp driving part 230 for supplying drive currents I for driving the discharge lamp 90 to the discharge lamp 90; a state detection part (voltage detection part 60) for detecting the deteriorating state of the discharge lamp 90; and a control part 40 for controlling the discharge lamp driving part 230. A period between the temporally adjacent switching timings starts with a first period, and ends with a second period. The control part 40 controls the discharge lamp driving part 230 such that the absolute value of the drive currents I becomes relatively small in the first period, and becomes relatively large in the second period, and controls the discharge lamp driving part 230 to supply AC currents as the drive currents I to the discharge lamp 90, and controls the discharge lamp driving part 230 such that the frequency of the drive currents I becomes low in accordance with the progress of the deteriorating state. |
