An LCD device includes a display panel (9) for displaying graphical objects representing heating zones, where the display panel displays a single graphic object (11) representing the heating zones that are controlled upon activation of control units (7, 16) when a detector associated with the container detects the presence of the container in the heating zones. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling operation of the cooktop.
