The present invention relates to a composition comprising a Phyllanthus urinaria extract and a compound isolated therefrom as an active ingredient and, specifically, samples of the present invention exhibits a strong inhibitory effect on CVA16 and EV71-induced cell lesions and confirms a strong anti-virus activity against CVA16 and EV71 virus-infected cells in experiments on CVA16 and EV71-induced cell lesions inhibitory effect and cytotoxicity targeting the extracts and the compounds using a Vero cell line. The composition is useful as a pharmaceutical composition or a health functional food for preventing and treating infections by enterovirus or Coxsackie virus.
