The application is concerned with modelling the quality of near-range RF communications in an environment containing 3D objects such as buildings. The model uses both a ground-plane data set, describing features with limited vertical extent such as rivers and roads, and a 3D object data set describing buildings and the like. The data sets are obtained by processing the data describing the environment. In a preferred embodiment the processing involves abstracting the data sets from a virtual 3D city model such as CityGML. The invention estimates the quality of a propagation path between two locations. This preferably involves estimating signal level at a destination, taking loss rate (presumably path loss) into account. |
