Dynamic control of the power sourcing capability of a power source

A method, apparatus, and device provide for the control of the power sourcing capability of a power source that supplies power to a device. A detection element of the device is operable to dynamically detect a power sourcing capability of the power source. A control element of the device is operable to monitor the detected power sourcing capability of the power source and to control the power source to effect a change in the power sourcing capability of the power source in response to a determination that the detected power sourcing capability of the power source is in violation of a threshold value.

1. A device provided power by a power source, comprising:
a detection element operable to dynamically detect a power sourcing capability of the power source; and a control element operable to monitor the detected power sourcing capability of the power source and to control the power source to effect a change in the power sourcing capability of the power source in response to a determination that the detected power sourcing capability of the power source is in violation of a threshold value of the device as determined by evaluation of a counter value of a counter of the detection element clocked by a clock signal at a transition of a control signal generated by the device, wherein the counter value less than the threshold value indicates that the detected power sourcing capability of the power source is representative of an oversupply condition and a power source control signal generated by the control element is operable to cause the power source to lower its power sourcing capability to the device and wherein an overflow condition of the counter value is representative of an undersupply condition and the power source control signal generated by the control element is operable to cause the power source to increase its power sourcing capability to the device.
