The present disclosure relates to methods of modulating aquaporin channels. Particularly, the disclosure provides methods of modulating aquaporin channels in a tissue of a mammal by administering relaxin.

A method of treating nephrogenic diseases of water imbalance in a human by administering purified, recombinant or synthetic H1, H2 or H3 human relaxin in an amount sufficient to increase aquaporin-4 expression in the kidney, wherein the increased expression of aquaporin-4 promotes movement of water out of the nephron filtrate and into the blood and results in a reduction of plasma osmolality.
