One or more aspects of the disclosure provide an efficient equalization scheme capable of mitigating multi-path interference on channels with large delay spread using short-length equalizers. That is, by dividing stored samples of a signal received on the multi-path channel by time into a plurality of clusters, a short-length equalizer can be utilized in an iterative fashion on each of the clusters, thus eliminating the need for a large length equalizer while still providing improved performance over that of a Rake receiver at large delay spreads. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described. |

1. A receiver configured for wireless communication, comprising:
a memory configured for storing samples of a received signal; and an equalization filter configured to use a cluster selection index for selecting and filtering at least a portion of the stored samples of the received signal in accordance with a separation of the received signal into a plurality of clusters by, for each cluster:
selecting the cluster from among the plurality of clusters that corresponds to the cluster selection index;filtering the selected cluster that corresponds to the cluster selection index; andincrementing the cluster selection index, wherein each cluster corresponds to a plurality of paths of a multipath channel experienced by the received signal from a source, and wherein each cluster of the plurality of clusters is filtered by the same equalization filter. |
