The present invention is to provide a cellulose pretreatment method, capable of increasing the surface area of cellulose and enhancing a dispersion force by sequentially adding three types of pretreatment dissolvent containing a hydroxyl group and radiating the same with ultrasonic waves respectively, unlike a conventional method. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the object as described above is achieved by a cellulose esterification method which comprises: a cellulose pretreatment step of irradiating a dispersion solution containing cellulose and water with ultrasonic waves, then adding alcohol to the dispersion solution, and irradiating the dispersed solution containing alcohol with ultrasonic waves again, thereafter adding fatty acid to the dispersion solution and irradiating the dispersed solution containing fatty acid with ultrasonic waves; and an esterification step of adding carboxylic acid and acetate acid anhydrides into the cellulose and pulverizing the anhydrides to carry out an esterification reaction.
