The disclosure relates to an anticorrosive coating composition comprising: a binding polymer selected from the group consisting of solvent-borne polymers, water-borne polymers and combinations thereof; an aluminum phosphate corrosion inhibiting pigment consisting of amorphous aluminum hydroxyl orthophosphate condensate dispersed within the binding polymer, wherein the amorphous aluminum hydroxyl orthophosphate has an oil absorption of less than 50; and wherein the coating composition comprises in the range of from 1 to 25 percent by weight of the amorphous aluminum hydroxyl orthophosphate, and wherein the coating composition provides a controlled delivery of phosphate anion in the range of from 50 to 500 ppm when the coating composition is in the form of a cured film, and wherein the coating composition has a total solubles content of from 50 to 800 ppm, wherein the total solubles content includes the phosphate anion. The amorphous aluminium phosphate is preferably free of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals and the coating composition has a water adsorption potential of up to 25% by weight water. The disclosure also related to a system of applying the coating composition to a metallic substrate. |
