Disclosed is a retainer (10a) for a wire rope safety barrier, a post (14) for a wire rope safety barrier and a wire rope safety barrier. The safety barrier is configured so that impacting vehicles do not cause wire ropes (12) to become detached or result in the collapse of posts (14) by dissipating the incurred force along the length of the road safety barrier to other posts (14) by employing a frangible tab (18). The retainer (10a) comprises a plurality of posts (14) for supporting one or more wire ropes (12) above the ground. The retainer (10a) includes an arm (16a, 16b) in the form of a ring for embracing at least half of a circumference of the post (14). The retainer (10a) can be held on the post (14) in a position along its length. The frangible or yieldable tab (18) extends from the arm (18) which is configured to break of yield when subjected to a lateral force by the wire rope (12) which exceeds a predetermined force. The wire rope is held in a notch or cut-away (20) in the post having a flat lower side and a curved upper side. The assists the wire rope to resist downward force and direct any upward force toward the frangible tab. In an alternative barrier the retainer is omitted and the wire rope winds in and out of the posts in a sinuous path and is held in tension along the length of the barrier. |
