Provided is a photoelectric conversion element which comprises a first electrode, a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer, a first hole transport layer and a second electrode, and wherein the first hole transport layer contains at least one of the basic compounds that are represented by general formula (1a) or general formula (1b). (In general formula (1a) or (1b), R1 and R2 may be the same or different, and each represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group, and R1 and R2 may combine together to form a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group containing a nitrogen atom.)
