A method for producing a renewable hydrocarbon composition comprising isobutanol, the method comprising: a) providing a processed feedstock slurry comprising protein hydrolysates and fermentable carbohydrate; b) adding the processed feedstock slurry to a fermentation medium; c) contacting the fermentation medium comprising processed feedstock slurry with a recombinant yeast host cell comprising a biosynthetic production matrix capable of producing a renewable hydrocarbon composition from both protein hydrolysates and fermentable carbohydrate at a higher yield than that of a recombinant yeast host cell without said biosynthetic production matrix and d) recovering a renewable hydrocarbon composition from the fermentation composition by distillation;wherein the biosynthetic production matrix comprises: i) the following production pathways: 1. an isobutanol production pathway2. a 3-methyl-1-butanol pathway,3. a 2-methyl-1-butanol pathway, and4. a 1-propanol pathway; ii) at least one heterologous matrix enzyme which catalyzes a substrate to product conversion in more than one of i) to iii); and iii) at least one genetic modification which alters the activity of LEU4, at least one genetic modification which alters the activity of LEU9, at least one genetic modification which alters the activity of ILV1, or a combination of such genetic modifications.
