A method for controlling the clutch comprises the steps of detecting that a condition for initiating a coasting mode of the motor vehicle is fulfilled and of separating the clutch in order to initiate the coasting mode, wherein the separation is carried out independently of the occurrence or absence of the actuation of the actuating unit.
