The invention relates to a pump system and a method for pumping viscous or partially viscous media out of a borehole. The pump system comprises a well pipe (3) which is installed in the borehole and a motor (5) which is coupled to an eccentric screw pump (7), said eccentric screw pump (7) comprising one or more stators (13) and one or more rotors (15, 15') which are received in the stator(s) (13) so as to rotate eccentrically. One or more connection means (20, 25) are also provided, by means of which the eccentric screw pump (7) is fixed in the well pipe (3) in a force-fitting and/or formfitting manner. For the purpose of removing the eccentric screw pump from the borehole, the eccentric screw pump (7) is held by means of the one or more connection means (20, 25) with an axial freedom of movement.
