FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of extracting and purifying sodium sulphide (NaS), formed during desulphuration of oil residues. The method includes treating sludge containing NaS, obtained during desulphuration of oil residues, with a mixture of at least one organic solvent and water. Further, the treated sludge is divided into an organic phase containing petroleum oil and an aqueous phase containing NaS, and the aqueous phase is distilled to obtain NaS, followed by purification thereof.
