This hydraulic control device, which controls the hydraulic pressure supplied to a continuously variable transmission, is provided with: a pressure adjustment valve having an input port, to which line pressure is input, an output port, which supplies a second pulley pressure to the oil chamber of a second pulley, a drain port, which discharges the second pulley pressure from the oil chamber, and a spool, which moves in accordance with a pilot pressure and adjusts the second pulley pressure; a solenoid valve that controls the pilot pressure; a line pressure control unit that controls the line pressure on the basis of the second pulley pressure and a first pulley pressure of a first pulley; and a hydraulic control unit that, when the line pressure and the second pulley pressure are the same pressure, temporarily alters the pilot pressure from a set pressure.
