This method for manufacturing an optical display device, in which an optical member (1) provided with a retardation layer in which a plurality of first regions and a plurality of second regions form bands in a planar view is affixed to a liquid-crystal panel that has a plurality of pixel rows, includes the following steps: a determination step in which, in a middle section and at one or both ends of the retardation layer in the direction in which said retardation layer extends, the widthwise centerline (C3) of the first region that is located centrally in an intersecting direction in the area in which the retardation layer overlaps the display region of the liquid-crystal panel in a planar manner is determined; and an affixing step in which the optical member (1) is affixed to the liquid-crystal panel on the basis of the relative positions of the centerline (C3) in the abovementioned middle section and the pixel row in said middle section in the center of the liquid-crystal panel in the abovementioned intersecting direction.
