A fan comprises an impeller (120) that is provided with blades (26, 28, 30, 32, 34; 126). The blades are designed in such a way that the load on individual blades differs during operation of the fan. This variable load on the blades allows the frequencies associated with the blade passing frequency (BPF) of the fan to be spread across a wider frequency spectrum and thus be less disturbing.
