A video encoder and a video encoding method are provided. In the encoding stage, a quantization level, which is selected with regard to encoding of macroblocks of an input video sequence, is applied and thereby, quantized and partially encoded macroblocks are generated. A quantization circuit in the encoding stage is configured to select a quantization level selected with regard to each macroblock by relying on an estimated complexity value which indicates a predicted entrophy encoding complexity of a given set of quantized and partially encoded macroblocks, which are defined with respect to each macroblock within the current slice. |
