This carrier control device (1) estimates the amount of time that will be taken to carry out a picking operation for each shelf (4) that has arrived in a picking point area (12). Furthermore, the carrier control device (1) adds the amounts of time that will be taken to carry out picking operations on a plurality of shelves (4) to be subjected to picking operations from and after the arrival of a shelf (4) so as to calculate the amount of time to wait for the end of a picking operation on the shelf (4) that has arrived. The carrier control device (1) then compares the amount of time to wait for the end of the picking operation on that shelf (4) with a predetermined threshold, and on the basis of the results of comparison, determines whether to cause the carrier (2) carrying that shelf (4) to drop off the shelf (4) and perform a different task or hold the shelf (4) and perform the task of waiting for the end of the picking operation. |
