[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A sheet 10 of vulcanized microporous rubber is fed from a reel 11, through a drying chamber 14 and heating plates 16, 17, 20, 21 to an embossing press, comprising male and female dies 22, 23 where it is embossed and cut to form battery separators, while being cooled in the press. The sheet is fed intermittently to the press by rollers 18, 19 which are rotated by the opening movement of the press, through a lever 55. The die 23 is stationary and is fixed to a cooling plate 24. The die 22 is moved by an eccentric 34 which acts on a plate 28 connected to the die 22 through springs 36. The die 22 is fixed to a cooling plate 27. Knives 39, 37 and 41, 38 co-operate to cut the embossed separator from the sheet and to trim its lower edge. Spring-urged ejection pins may be provided in both dies. |
