[Class 83 (iii)] Relates to an inserted blade cutter comprising a body 10 provided with one or more slots 12 having in end view a generally dovetail cross-section and having opposing front and back walls 16, 18 which converge but are uniformly spaced to permit longitudinal adjustment therein of a correspondingly shaped blade 24 which is locked by a separate wedge element 26 fitting between the bottoms of the blade and of the slot. According to the invention, the mutually contacting faces of the blade 24 and wedge 26 are provided with interfitting formations,' e.g. serrations, to enable them to be interlocked as an assembly in pre-selected relative longitudinal positions, the face 20 of the bottom of the slot which contacts the wedge 26 being inclined to the direction of endwise adjustment of the blade to correspond to the angle of the wedge assembly. The wedge 26 and the face 20 may be cylindrical in form. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a cutter in which the serrations are omitted and the bottoms of the slots are not inclined, the wedge engaging instead an inclined slot on the bottom of the blade. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
