[Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] A hand iron with means for steaming the work including a steam generator and a valve for supplying water thereto and having means for regulating the temperature of the sole plate is provided with means controlled by the temperature regulator for determining the maximum opening of the valve. Steam is generated in a chamber 34 in a plug 30 screwed into the sole which is heated by a coiled element 17 in series with a thermostat 21 manually adjustable to the required temperature by a rotatable rod 22 having a scaled knob 24 reading against an index mark on its window 25. The rod 22 also carries a cam flanged disc 55 which engages a stop 57 on the stem 41 of the valve that supplies the water from the tank 9 to the steam generator 30. The flange may be shaped to close down the valve when the thermostat 21 is moved to the " off " position to open the heating circuit. The valve stem 41 is lifted by a bracket 45; Fig. 4, resiliently secured to a knob 43 that can be slid up or down to the " on " or " off " position. This adjustment is of a snap-acting type, the valve stem 41 being grooved to engage toggle springs 54 secured to posts 53. The springs thus resiliently hold the valve in the lower closed position or in the upper position open to the extent set by the cam disc.</p> |
