An electrosurgical apparatus for removing tissue at a target site comprises a shaft (100, Fig 2A) with a proximal end, a distal portion (120, Fig 2A) and a distal tip (140, Fig 2A). The distal portion comprises a tubular insulating support member 150 with one or more recessed support shelves for support of at least one active screen electrode (104, Fig 2C) (each electrode having at least one aperture). An aspiration cavity 135 with a ramp 136 is disposed within the support member adjacent the support shelf, fluidly connecting the at least one active electrode aperture with a fluid aspiration element 109 disposed within the shaft. A flushing conduit 116 is also disposed within the support member and connects a fluid supply element 114 with the aspiration cavity. A return electrode (112, Fig 2C) encircles at least a portion of the tubular support member with at least one discharge aperture 115 disposed within it, fluidly connected to the fluid supply element so that a portion of the fluid supply flows through the discharge aperture and a portion through the flushing conduit. |
