Disclosed are a mobile terminal and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a sound output part outputting sound corresponding to play of contents; a setting part including multiple noise blocking levels, and setting at least one noise blocking level based on a user input; and a control part when playing the contents, blocking surrounding noise upon the set noise blocking level, and when a specific event is detected, controlling the preset noise blocking level to change the level of blocking surrounding noise upon the detected specific event.
