A computer system (100), computer implemented method and computer program product for identifying energy consumers. The system includes an interface component (110) configured to receive at a sampling rate a series (400, 401) of energy measurement data associated with an entity (210), the series (400, 401) of measurement data reflecting aggregate energy values over time in relation to energy consuming devices (EC1, EC2, ECn) associated with the entity (210). The system further includes a transformation component (120) configured to determine a discretized time derivative value (501 rm, 502rm, 504rm, 505rm, 506rm) of the series (400, 401) of measurement data for each sampling time point. The system further includes a substitution component (130) configured to substitute each discretized time derivative value with a corresponding character of a finite alphabet, thus generating a string (600) encoding energy data fluctuations between the sampling time points. The system further includes a pattern recognition component (140) configured to apply string pattern matching to the generated string (600) to identify a pattern in the string (600) which matches a predefined signature (150) of a specific energy consuming device (EC1) associated with the entity (210), and configured to report the specific energy consuming device (EC1) as an identified energy consumer. |
