A honeycomb filter 20 includes small cells 25 and large cells 23. The small cells 25 are open at one end and closed at the other end and serve as a fluid flow path. The large cells 23 are closed at one end and open at the other end and have a larger opening area than the small cells 25. The honeycomb filter 20 includes partition portions 22 between a large cell 23 and another large cell 23 (between large-large cells) and between a large cell and a small cell (between large-small cells), and a trapping layer 24 for trapping and removing solid components (PM) contained in an exhaust gas, the trapping layer 24 being disposed on each of the partition portions 22. The trapping layers 24 are formed such that the thickness of a trapping layer 24b between large-large cells is 60% or more and 95% or less of the thickness of a trapping layer 24a between large-small cells.
