The invention relates to a cleaning composition comprising an antimicrobial agent dissolved in a mixture of an alcohol and an aqueous media. The composition can comprise 2-75% alcohol, 0.5-5% antimicrobial agent and 24-97% aqueous media. In one embodiment, the composition may comprise 2-75% alcohol, 1-5% antimicrobial agent, 7-20% surfactant, 1-10% emollient, 1-10% stabiliser, 0-0.05% essential oils and balance percentage aqueous media. Preferably, the antimicrobial agent is plant derived and can be an essential oil selected from one or more of tea tree oil, fragonia oil (obtained from Agonis Fragrans) and rose geranium (an extract from Pelargonium graveolens). One or more excipients may be included in the composition, wherein the excipient can be selected from colourants, perfumes, emollients, surfactants and stabilisers. A method of cleaning a body cleaning article, such as a sponge or loofah, is also claimed. The method comprises contacting the body cleaning article with the composition. In addition, the composition can be used to sanitise surfaces. |
