Preparations for prevention or destruction of weeds comprise a compound of the formula Ar.X.CH2.Y the symbol Ar standing for a phenyl or naphthyl residue (which may contain alkyl (C1 to C6), halogen and nitro substituents), X standing for O, S, or NH, and Y for a carboxy group wherein the hydrogen atom may be replaced by a water-soluble salt-forming atom or group, the compound being associated with a fertilizer, a solid soil conditioning agent or a solid inert diluent or mixtures of these substances. When X stands for O and Ar is a phenyl residue, the latter preferably carries one or more chlor or methyl groups but is unsubstituted if it is a naphthyl residue. In examples sodium b -naphthoxyacetate is used in admixture with chalk, ammonium sulphate, or hop manure and sodium p-toloxyacetate is used mixed with talc. Soluble salts of p-chlorophenoxyacetic acid 2:4:6 trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 3- and 5-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid, o-toloxyacetic acid, 2:4- or 2:5-dimethylphenoxyacetic acid, p-butylphenoxyacetic acid, a -naphthoxyacetic acid, a -naphthylaminoacetic acid, and a -naphthylmercaptoacetic acid may also be used. Other fertilizers specified are basic slag, potash salts, and superphosphates, other soil conditioning agents hydrated or ground lime, and other diluents sand and clay. |
