According to the present invention, a carbon material has the surface functionalized with a hydroxyl group; and thus a defect is not generated on the surface. Therefore, the carbon material can maintain mechanical strength and electric conductivity which are higher than those of the prior carbon material and has thermal stability even at high temperatures. Moreover, the carbon material of the present invention has excellent solubility and excellent dispersion ability resulted from the hydroxyl group, which is a polar functional group and exists on the surface of the carbon material. Accordingly, the carbon material can be utilized in various fields such as batteries and multi-functional composite materials.
