Stratified storage system and method for operating same

The system has a storage tank (1) containing storage medium, connected to a cold water inlet pipe (4) and a cold water discharge pipe (7) in a lower container area. A storage charging circuit (6) heats the medium. Volume of the tank is functionally partitioned into a readiness volume (2) and reserve volume (3) that lies below the readiness volume. The storage charging circuit has an additional hot water inlet pipe (W2) adjacent to a hot water inlet pipe (W1) that connects a heat exchanger (8) with the readiness and reserve volumes.
