摘要 640,933. Making barrels. JASPER WOOD CRAFTERS, Inc. July 17, 1947, No. 19144. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1942. [Class 21] A barrel is formed from wooden sheets which are pre-cut to form series of joined staves, the sheets then being placed with adhesive between them in a mould and expanded outwardly until the adhesive sets. Two sheets of laminated board 25, 26 may be used, placed together so that the cuts in one sheet are covered by the staves of the other. The sheets are bent to form a cylinder and held thus by rings 32, 33. The cylinder, with the ends slightly compressed by straps 35, 36 is placed in the lower half of a cylindrical form 45. End moulds 51, 52 are advanced by rams to enclose the extreme ends of the cylinder and the straps 35, 36 are removed. The form 45 is closed and the moulds advanced to force the cylinder into' a barrel shape. A bag 65 is expanded within the barrel to press it against the moulds 51, 52 and heat is applied by circulating hot fluid in chambers 47, 59, 60 to set the adhesive. The fluid filling the bag 65 may also be heated. To reduce the time required to fill the bag 65 it may have a cylindrical core. The moulds and form may produce smaller barrels by having liners fitted within. The head of the barrel is sprung into a croying groove and secured by radial pins.
