PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting composition having photo-aligning property with high sensitivity, and an alignment layer, a substrate with an alignment layer, a retardation plate, and a device using the above composition.SOLUTION: The retardation plate comprises a substrate, an alignment layer formed on the substrate, and a retardation layer formed on the alignment layer. The alignment layer comprises a copolymer that has a photo-aligning structural unit represented by formula (1) below and a crosslinking structure, and has a photo-dimerization structure or a photo-isomerization structure of a photo-alignment group possessed by the photo-alignment structural unit. In formula (1), X represents a photo-aligning group that induces a photo-isomerization reaction or a photo-dimerization reaction; Lrepresents a single bond, -O-, -S-, -COO-, -COS-, -CO-, -OCO-, -OCO(CH)COO-, -OCOCHCHOCHCHCOO-, -OCOCHO-, -OCOCHO-, -COO(CH)O-, -COOCHO-, or the like; n represents 1 to 4; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group; and k represents 1 to 5. |
