<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a heating rotating body and a pressure rotating body from being in pressure-contact with each other for a long time, and to enable easy attachment/detachment of an image heating device.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image heating device 21 detachable from the image forming apparatus, and including a heating rotating body 100 having a heating section 102, a pressure rotating body 101, and a contact/separation mechanism 130 for bringing the heating rotating body and the pressure rotating body into contact/separation to/from each other; a motor 91 which drives the image heating device; a gear train 90 for transmitting rotation of the motor to the image heating device; an opening/closing member 50 for opening/closing an opening 58 for attaching/detaching the image heating device to/from the image forming apparatus; and an opening/closing detection apparatus 51 for detecting whether the opening/closing member is opened/closed. When the opening/closing member is determined to be opened, on the basis of a detection signal of the opening/closing detection apparatus, the motor is rotated in a first direction for a first predetermined time in order to disengage a gear of the gear train. When end of a print job is determined, the motor is rotated in a second direction after a second predetermined time, in order to separate the heating rotating body from the pressure rotating body by means of the contact/separation mechanism.</p> |
