<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing variable mechanism of an internal combustion engine, capable of suppressing occurence of delay in lock pin protruding operation.SOLUTION: A valve timing variable mechanism 1 of an internal combustion engine: makes a relative rotational phase of a cam shaft in respect to a crank shaft variable through a relative rotation of a rotor 3 in respect to a housing 4; and causes a lock pin 20 in a storing part 17 to be protruded/retracted on the basis of a hydraulic force or an elastic force of a spring 18 thereby causes the lock pin 20 to be inserted into a hole 19 or pulled out of the hole 19. Thus, a relative rotation between the rotor 3 and the housing 4 is prohibited or the prohibition is released. The spring 18 is arranged between a bottom surface of a recess 21 formed at the lock pin 20 and an inner surface of the storing part 17. In addition, the valve timing variable mechanism 1 is formed with a communication passage 22 that causes the recess 21 to be communicated with the surrounding atmosphere when an opening of the recess is closed by an inner surface 17a by abutting of the opening of the recess 21 against the inner surface 17a of the storing part 17 under a condition that the lock pin 20 is immersed into the storing part 17.</p> |
