PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet stack supporting device capable of supporting a sheet stack at both lateral end parts with a pair of right and left supporters to lift it without making folding on the lowest sheet in the sheet stack and capable of being smoothly pulled out the supporters in lateral direction.SOLUTION: The sheet stack supporting device comprises: supporters 51 supporting both lateral end parts of a sheet stack Sfrom bottom; a belt 52 wound on periphery of each supporter 51; a belt lock mechanism 56 capable of switching lock mode and free mode; a straight moving mechanism 45A horizontally moving the supporters 51 so as to be pulled out in lateral direction of the sheet stack S. The belt lock mechanism 56 is switched to lock mode when both lateral end parts of the sheet stack Sare supported by the supporters 51. The belt lock mechanism 56 is switched to free mode when the supporters 51 are pulled out in lateral direction of the sheet stack S.
