<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to prevent a streaky image defect from being generated due to separation and contact between image holding bodies of imaging apparatus and a rotating annular belt passing through the image holding bodies sequentially, in changing of a mode between first mode and second mode during consecutive image forming operation.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes control means which controls power source means to supply a switch voltage, which is smaller than a transfer voltage for image formation, in a period from the start to the end of separation or contact between image holding bodies of inactive imaging apparatuses and an annular belt and a transfer member, when a mode is changed during consecutive image forming operation, between first mode which forms an image by use of all the imaging apparatuses and second mode which forms an image by using some of the imaging apparatuses, while separating the annular belt and the transfer member from the image holding bodies of the inactive imaging apparatuses.</p> |
