SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING ROAD POTHOLE AREA USING IMAGE

A method for recognizing a road pothole area using an image according to the present invention comprises the steps of: allowing a photographing part to photograph the image of the area of interest of a road from a moving vehicle; allowing a first noise removing part to remove the noise of the photographed image of the area of interest; allowing a brightness adjusting part to adjust the brightness of the image having the noise removed therefrom for each area; allowing a binarizing part to convert the image having the brightness adjusted into a binary image; allowing a second noise removing part to remove the noise of the converted binary image; allowing a contour extracting part to extract the contour of the binary image having the noise removed therefrom; allowing a rectangular area part to select object images from the image having the contour extracted therefrom and making the object images into rectangular areas; and allowing a pothole returning part to return the images, which have been made into the rectangular images and extracted finally, to pothole area information. The system and the method for recognizing a road pothole using an image according to the present invention enables a user to recognize and avoid a danger by determining a pothole based on an image to prevent accident and damages caused by a pothole during the drive of a vehicle and returning the result thereof, and can provide important information for the cause analysis of accidents in the case of a vehicle accident occurring due to the pothole.
