PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic composite hydrogel having a degree of swelling controlled to a low value.SOLUTION: There is obtained a low-swelling organic-inorganic composite hydrogel by subjecting an organic-inorganic composite hydrogel (A) having a carboxylic acid (salt) and an amino group-containing compound (B) to a condensation reaction with a water-soluble carbodiimide as a catalyst. When hydrophobic aniline and hydrophilic sodium aminonaphthalenesulfonate are used in combination as the amino group-containing compound (B), a degree of swelling can be controlled by changing the charging ratio of the two. Furthermore, when aliphatic amines such as decylamine and dodecylamine are used, hydrophobic and flexible alkyl groups are introduced in the hydrogel and, therefore, there is provided a low swelling hydrogel having not only a high refractive index but also flexibility. Further, by selecting aliphatic amines having different carbon chain length and using them in combination, the degree of swelling of the obtained hydrogel can be controlled. |
