A method for auditing object inventory disposed at an inventory storage location that comprises installing a wireless base station having a base station transponder at the inventory storage location. The base station transponder transmits a first radio signal out to a predetermined base station signal range boundary. Disposing at least one object having a wireless portable object transponder within the predetermined base station signal range boundary. The portable object transponder transmits a first object transponder radio signal out to predetermined transponder signal range boundary that encompasses the wireless base station. Upon detecting the first portable object transponder radio signal the base station transponder transmits a second base station radio signal causing the portable object transponder to transmit a second portable object transponder radio signal to the base station transponder that includes unique identifier data pertaining to the object being audited.

1. A method for auditing object inventory disposed at an inventory storage location, the method comprising the steps of:
installing a wireless base station having a base station transponder at the inventory storage location, and wherein the base station transponder transmits a first radio signal out to a predetermined base station signal range boundary; disposing at least one object having a wireless portable object transponder within the predetermined base station signal range boundary, and wherein the portable object transponder transmits a first portable object transponder radio signal out to predetermined transponder signal range boundary which encompasses the wireless base station; and, wherein upon detecting the first portable object transponder radio signal the base station transponder transmits a second base station radio signal causing the portable object transponder to transmit a second portable object transponder radio signal to the base station transponder, and wherein the second portable object transponder radio signal includes unique identifier data pertaining to the object such that the object can be audited.
